City of Life church mobilizes local business help - Send humanitarian aid to Haiti
City of Life Church is spearheading an initiative in Central Florida that will bring aid to the hundreds of thousands of people affected by the tragic earthquake that occurred near Port Au Prince, Haiti, on January 12, 2010. At the time of this press release, Haitian prime minister Jean-Max Bellrive estimated that 100,000 people had perished as a result of the earthquake, and the Red Cross estimates that up to three million have been affected.
In response to this tragedy that has left many survivors injured and homeless, City of Life Church, under the direction of Pastor Jeffrey Smith, is asking everyone in Central Florida to partner with them in a humanitarian effort called Reach Out: Haiti in one of two ways: first, by offering their place of business as a collection site for donated items; or second, by donating items that will be shipped to Haitians who have been affected by the earthquake.
Business owners who would like to use their business as a collection site for Reach Out: Haiti will be given a container and a banner to place inside their business. City of Life is hoping to partner with over 100 Central Florida businesses in their effort to help those in need.
Reach Out: Haiti is asking the general public to participate by donating items that fit into three categories: personal hygiene products, medical supplies, and bottled water. Personal hygiene products include soap, shampoo & conditioner, plastic combs, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, hand & body lotion, wash cloths, baby wipes, feminine hygiene products, etc. Injured Haitians will also benefit from medical supplies such as bandages (soft-stretch bandages, ace bandages, and band-aids), cotton balls, cotton-tipped swabs, peroxide, rubbing alcohol, antibiotic ointment, disposable latex gloves, gauze pads, hand sanitizer, saline solution, thermometers, aspirin and non-aspirin, finger splints, adhesive tape, instant ice-packs, etc. There is a desperate need for clean water, so we are also asking for donations of bottled water.
It is our goal that, through our donations, Central Florida will bring hope and much-needed assistance to the many Haitians who were affected by the earthquake.
